Apple Theme Kitchen



Decorating the kitchen is never easier than when you start with theme, and an apple theme kitchen is warm on both the eyes and heart. You won't need Mom's fresh apple pie in order to set a country mood when you start with an inexpensive canister set that is covered with the appropriate design. Not only are the decorated canisters easy to find, but other ceramic ware will quickly blend right in, including a spoon rest, salt and pepper shaker set, trivet and oil cruet. All these items, essential to a functional kitchen, will provide a contribution to the overall theme from their own little niche in the kitchen.



When you have girlfriends over, they will remark about the coziness that the apple theme imparts to the kitchen. It will take them back to years past when a country kitchen was defined by it's functionality, simplicity, and devotion to it's own quiet purpose, which was to serve up breakfast, lunch, and dinner to hungry members of a family. When considering the family, we embrace fond remembrances of brothers and sisters, mother and father, joined around the table to enjoy each other's company with food. On a cold morning, the family members would all warm their feet on a throw rug laid in colors of rich greens and deep reds, imparting to the kitchen the ambiance of a late summer apple harvest.

Not satisfied with the mere addition of a few ceramic pieces that begin the theme work, the avid decorating housewife might include table napkins, chair pads with their green and red designs, the right potholder and oven mitt, and decorated kitchen towels to enhance the experience. These are all functional items that often times can be found at a yard sale for a couple of bits, or less if one is a good barterer and not embarrassed to get the best price when purchasing her kitchen decor. If she is lucky, she will rummage through piles of things being sold by a neighbor early on a weekend morning, and come across a treasure, such as an old apple press, or perhaps wallpaper border that displays a variety of brightly colored apples in reds and golds.

When she gets home, she will open the border and stretch it across a wall at the ceiling to get an idea of whether or not it is pretty enough for her kitchen. Perhaps she'll ask the opinion of her husband or a friend before she commits to unrolling it out and wetting the starch paste on the back so that it can be applied. When she is done, she will not doubt still be unsatisfied, for a kitchen theme is never complete without a splash wall of particular color of theme to complete the setting. Thus, she will go to the wallpaper store and spend hours window shopping along the aisles, looking at each sample piece and imagining it's appearance in her own house.
